Allow cooling before transferring for storage.

Strawberry Kiss Cookie Variations

Change the cake mix - Swap out the strawberry cake mix for any flavor cake mix: red velvet, lemon, and chocolate are good options.

Switch up the chocolates - These kisses cookies use the traditional Hershey Kisses but they can easily be swapped out for chocolate hearts, Brach's chocolate stars, or Dove chocolates.

  1. In the actual recipe part, it doesn't have to add in the dry ingredients. Also, it says to scoop the dough and roll in suger THEN it has to chill the dough - shouldn't the dough be chilled first?

    1. Hi Lori! I added mixing the dry ingredients in for step 3. As far as rolling the balls in sugar, you can do it either way but I always roll in sugar first before chilling. When I freeze my cookie dough balls that are rolled in sugar before baking, I do it this way as well. I hope that helps!

      1. The recipe instructions are confusing. First step is to preheat oven. Then mix everything, then roll into balls and roll in sugar. Then cover “dough” and refrigerate. Then bake. But if I need to chill the dough for an hour before baking, why would I already start the oven? I think the directions would be better if edited clearer. The first time I just mixed, rolled and baked. Realized later I needed to “chill the dough” but I didn’t roll into balls first. They were ok but still difficult to work with. Now I will mix, roll, chill, preheat and then bake. I’m really hoping these turn out for valentines.

        1. You are right! I have moved the preheating instructions down further in the recipe for clarification. Happy Valentine's Day!

  2. Won't the Hershey kisses melt it you put them on right away after being in the oven? And why do you pre-heat the oven first thing when the dough will be in the refrigerator for an hour?

    1. I've never had an issue with my Kisses melting into cookies. I gently push them into the centers and then not touch the cookies again until the chocolate has hardened and the chocolate has lost its sheen. I've moved the preheating instructions down, as it has confused some people.

  3. And the recipe says to scoop the dough into balls but then it says to the cookie dough in the refrigerator for an hour. In cookie form or the whole cookie dough bowl? I'm novice at all this.

    1. Hi Mari! I've done it both ways. You can roll the dough into balls and roll them in sugar and place them back in the bowl, or you can place the dough balls on a cookie sheet and chill the sheet in the fridge. It's up to you 🙂

  4. I'm made these cookies recently , and they were very good. The only problem I had is they spread a little even after I refrigerated them for one hour before putting them in the oven. I may add another tablespoon of flour next time.
