Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies are a classic cookie made with soft peanut butter cookie dough rolled in sugar and topped with chocolate candy in the center. These cookies bake up soft with lightly crisp edges and a sweet peanut butter flavor that pairs perfectly with chocolate.
This version uses simple pantry ingredients and comes together quickly. After baking, a chocolate candy is pressed into the center while the cookies are still warm, creating the signature blossom shape. Heart-shaped chocolates work well for Valentine's Day cookies, but you can easily swap them for chocolate kisses for everyday baking.
These cookies are always a favorite for holiday cookie trays, cookie exchanges, and homemade dessert platters.

What Are Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies?
Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies are a soft peanut butter cookie topped with a piece of chocolate pressed into the center after baking. The cookies are traditionally rolled in sugar before baking, which creates a lightly crisp exterior and soft chewy center.
They became popular in the United States as a holiday cookie and are now one of the most recognizable peanut butter cookie recipes. While chocolate kisses are the classic topping, other chocolate candies can easily be used depending on the occasion.
Why These Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies Work
- The combination of butter and peanut butter gives the cookies a rich flavor and soft texture.
- Rolling the dough in granulated sugar adds a lightly crisp coating.
- Pressing the chocolate into the center while the cookies are warm allows it to settle perfectly into the cookie.
- The dough is simple and comes together quickly with pantry ingredients.

Ingredients in Peanut Butter Blossoms
The ingredients in these peanut butter blossoms are quite straight forward and every day ingredients.
- All-Purpose Flour - spooned & leveled
- Unsalted Butter - softened
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Peanut Butter - creamy is best, it makes the cookies smooth and chewy
- Brown Sugar
- Granulated Sugar - for the cookie dough and for rolling
- Egg
- Milk - helps soften the dough
- Vanilla Extract
- Chocolate Candies - 25 pieces, unwrapped (Heart Shaped or Kisses)

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to cream the softened butter until smooth.
- Add the peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar and beat until the mixture is creamy and well combined.
- Mix in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the dough comes together.
- Use a #40 cookie scoop (about 1½ tablespoons) to portion the dough.
- Roll the dough into smooth balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar until coated.
- Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8 minutes, until the cookies are lightly golden around the edges.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press a chocolate candy into the center of each cookie.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before storing so the chocolate can set properly.

Use a cookie scoop to keep the cookies evenly sized so they bake consistently.
Press the chocolate candy into the cookies right after baking while they are still warm.
