They bake in one 9x13 pan, so they are easy to bring to a party, classroom, or Halloween dinner.

  1. Preheat and prepare. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13 inch dish with parchment paper and spray with baking spray.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients. Melt the butter, then let it cool for a few minutes. In a large bowl, stir the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until smooth.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Combine. Add the dry ingredients to the wet along with 1 ½ cups of the chocolate chips and half of the Halloween sprinkles. Stir until just combined, do not overmix.
  5. Spread and top. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup chocolate chips and the rest of the sprinkles over the top.
  6. Bake. Bake for 26 to 28 minutes, until the edges are golden and the center looks set.
  7. Cool. Let the bars cool in the pan for at least an hour before slicing. They will fall apart if you cut them warm.

QUICK TIPS

Use dark brown sugar, not light. It gives these bars a deeper, more caramel flavor that holds up to the chocolate.

Let the butter cool. Hot melted butter will cook the eggs and make the batter greasy. Let it sit a few minutes after melting.

Do not overbake. The center should look slightly underdone when you pull the pan. It will finish setting as the bars cool, which keeps them soft and chewy.

Line with parchment. The overhanging parchment makes it easy to lift the whole pan of bars out and slice neat squares.

Cool completely. This is the one step you cannot rush. An hour in the pan makes the difference between clean slices and a crumbly mess.
