These heart peanut butter cookies are perfect Valentine's Day cookies for peanut butter lovers! Peanut Butter and chocolate are the perfect pair and these heart-shaped cookies are dipped in chocolate to make these cookies that much more special.
Heart Shaped Cookies
These cookies can be made with or without using a cookie cutter. A 2" heart-shaped cookie cutter is my preference because it's quicker and the process is much smoother than shaping and cutting by hand.
To make the heart shape cookies, roll a 1 ½ inch ball of dough and use the palm of your hand to flatten it out to roughly 2 inches.
Use the cookie cutter and remove any dough from around the outside of the cutter and add it back to the unused cookie dough.
If you don't have a heart cookie cutter on hand, you can cut by hand pretty easily. You will need to roll the dough into about 1 ½ inch balls and flatten the cookie dough out with your hands.
You will then pinch the bottom to create the bottom of the heart and use a knife to cut out a "V" at the top of the heart. Use your fingers to round the top of the heart out.
For the classic peanut butter cookie look, use a fork and press into the heart peanut butter cookies on each side to give it that signature peanut butter cookie look.
Alternatively, if you're looking for cookies that aren't Valentine's Day cookie related, use any 2 inch cookie cutter to get creative and fit your special occasion!
TIP: Dip the fork in ice-cold water to prevent the fork from sticking to the cookie when adding the crisscross pattern.
Classic Peanut Butter Cookies
This recipe is no-spread and works perfectly when using cookie cutters and there's no need to chill the dough! It's perfect for making not only Valentine's Day cookies but classic version as well.
That being said, if you have no desire to use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or any other cookie cutter for that matter, then, by all means, skip the cookie-cutter step!
Simply roll the cookie dough into 1 ½ inch balls and flatten out on a nonstick cookie sheet.
Use a fork in a crisscross fashion to mark the top of the cookies. Bake the cookies according to directions and you're good to go!

- Peanut butter - crunchy or smooth - I prefer smooth
- Unsalted Butter
- All-purpose flour - spooned & leveled
- Salt
- Baking Powder
- Brown Sugar - makes cookies chewy
- Granulated Sugar
- 12 oz melting wafers
How to Make Heart Peanut Butter Cookies Dipped in Chocolate
As in most cookie recipes, start with softened butter. Butter can be substituted for shortening if you would rather use that.
The butter is then creamed with the brown sugar and the granulated sugar until smooth.
Your choice of peanut butter and the vanilla extract are added in next and beat until combined well.
Eggs are then added to the mixture and beat until fluffy.
The salt, baking powder, and spooned & leveled all-purpose flour is combined next and then added to the wet ingredients.
Once the cookie dough is well-mixed roll the dough into 1 ½ inch balls and flatten down using the back of a spoon or your palm on a cookie sheet either lined with parchment paper or silicone mats.
If using a cookie cutter to make Valentine's Day cookies, cut the shape out of the flattened dough and remove the remnants.
The cookies are then baked for 9-12 minutes depending on your oven. Keep an eye on the peanut butter cookies. Once the cookies are lightly browned on the bottom, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely.

Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Cookies
You can make these heart peanut butter cookies even more special by dipping them into melted chocolate and turning them into perfect Valentine's Day cookies.
To do this you want to make sure that the cookies are cooled completely before dipping them. Otherwise, the heart peanut butter cookies will split right down the middle of the heart.
Chocolate melting wafers are perfect to use for dipping cookies because the chocolate is smooth and the consistency is perfect for dipping.
Once the heart peanut butter cookies are completely cool, pick up the cookie and dip half of the cookie into the melting chocolate and gently shake to remove any excess chocolate.
Place the chocolate dipped heart peanut butter cookies on parchment paper and allow the chocolate to harden before storing the cookies.

- 1 cup unsalted butter - softened (2 sticks)
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter - or crunchy if you prefer
- ½ cup brown sugar - packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour - spooned & leveled
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 12 oz melting chocolate wafers
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F
- Beat the softened butter together with the granulated sugar and the brown sugar.
- Add in the peanut butter and the vanilla extract.
- Next, beat in the eggs until fluffy.
- Combine the baking powder, salt, and all-purpose flour in a separate bowl.
- Add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix until soft dough forms.
- Roll cookie dough into 1 ½ inch balls and place on parchment paper or silicone mat lined baking sheets.
- Use the back of a spoon to flatten the dough into a 2-inch circle.
- Use a 2" heart cookie cutter to cut the heart shape out of the circle.
- Remove the remaining cookie dough.
- Once the heart cookies have been made create a crisscross pattern on the cookie.
- To do this, use a fork dipped in ice-cold water and press into the cookie in a crisscross fashion.
- Bake in the oven for 9-11 minutes. Oven temperatures may vary.
- Once the cookies are lightly browned on the bottoms, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely.
Chocolate-Dipped Cookies
- Melt the chocolate melting wafers according to the package.
- Dip half of the completely cooled cookie into the chocolate and gently shake excess chocolate off.
- Place the dipped cookies on parchment paper and allow the chocolate to harden completely before storing.
