Instructions for Making Pumpkin Patch Brownies

The first step to making the delicious pumpkin patch brownies is to preheat the oven and line a 9-inch pan with parchment paper with extra parchment paper to hang over the side of pan. This will make it easy to lift the brownies out of the pan to cut into squares. You can also use cooking spray to grease the bottom and sides of the pan.

Bake the brownies according to the box directions. You will need a mixing bowl and most likely need eggs and oil to make fudgy brownies.

Bake the brownies in a 9x9 square pan according to the box directions and check the doneness of the brownies with an inserted toothpick into the center of the pan. You want the brownies to be fudgy and dry and crumbly. Allow the brownies to completely cool in the pan before lifting them out of the pan.

Make Oreo crumbs by adding about 13 Oreo cookies in a food processor and blending them to make Oreo dirt. Set aside and make the chocolate ganache.

To make the chocolate ganache, you can either make it on the stovetop or heat the heavy cream in the microwave until bubbly at 30-second intervals to be careful not to burn it.

Once the heavy cream is heated, add the chocolate chips to the heavy whipping cream and let it sit so the chocolate chips have the chance to melt. Whisk the ganache mixture until it is smooth and allow it to cool slightly before pouring it evenly over the top of the brownie.

Once the ganache is poured over the uncut brownies, evenly layer the Oreo crumbs on top of the frosting and gently press down into the ganache so the Oreo crumbs will stick.

Next, use green cookie icing to draw small green lines to resemble garden rows before placing your candy pumpkins on top of the brownies making sure that there are enough candy pumpkins to have one in the center of each brownie once they are cut.

And there you have it! Your pumpkin patch brownies are ready to be enjoyed at bake sales, at a fall party, or just as a tasty treat at home.

Remember to store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator because the ganache needs to stay refrigerated. Happy baking!

Hint: Use parchment paper with a two-inch overhang to easily lift the brownies from the pan so slice them easily.

Substitutions

This recipe for Pumpkin Patch Brownies has quite a few substitutions that can be made and still have the best results.

Instead of using a boxed brownie mix, you can make homemade brownies using your favorite brownie recipe and baking them in a 9x9 baking pan.

In place of the chocolate ganache, you can use canned chocolate frosting to smooth over the cooled brownies before topping with the Oreo dirt.

Instead of using premade green cookie icing, you can substitute with white chocolate chips melted and colored with green food coloring.

Variations for Pumpkin Patch Brownies

These recipe variations are a good way to change the recipe to fit your dietary needs and preferences.

In addition to the candy pumpkins pressed into the Oreo crumbs resembling garden soil, you can add gummy worms to make them a fun treat for a Halloween party.

In place of candy pumpkins, you can dip fresh strawberries in melted orange candy melts and use them as your "pumpkins."

You can also make this fun Halloween treat gluten free. To do this, use a gluten free brownie mix or use make homemade gluten free brownies. Make sure to choose gluten free Oreos and gluten free candies to make them truly gluten free.

To make these fun treats even easier, you can skip making the brownies and use pre-made brownies in their place.
